Frank Jordan Hawley Jr. harbored a keen interest in investment banking from an early age, setting the stage for a career that spanned several decades. His journey began in 1955 as a research analyst with Eaton & Howard, Inc., a four-year role he held. Transitioning to Lazard Frères, he served as an investment banking associate from 1959 to 1964, followed by five years as a Stein, Roe & Farnham portfolio manager. From 1969 to 1974, he was Executive Vice President at Laidlaw Coggeshall, Inc., before becoming a Partner at Foster Management Co. from 1974 to 1982.
Since 1982, Mr. Hawley has been the Managing Partner at Saugatuck Capital Co. in Stamford, Connecticut, where he eventually retired and currently serves as a senior advisor. His son, Stuart, now manages the company. The success of Saugatuck, founded in 1982, is attributed to Bill Grant, the former president of Smith Barney & Company, who played a crucial role in helping Mr. Hawley raise $28 million for his first venture capital fund. Mr. Hawley has served as Chairman of the Board for various Saugatuck portfolio companies, including the most recent one, Floor & Décor Outlets of America, Inc.
In addition to his professional endeavors, Mr. Hawley has been actively involved in various organizations, serving on the Board of Visitors of the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and holding positions such as former Vice President and Treasurer of the New Canaan YMCA. He maintains affiliations with the Links Club, the Harvard Club of New York, the New Canaan Country Club, the Mill Reef Club, and the Bald Peak Club.
Having served as a Lieutenant (JG) in the United States Navy during the Korean War, Mr. Hawley's commitment to his country is evident. A proud father of five children and grandfather of nine grandchildren, he received recognition in multiple Who's Who publications between 1987 and 2014. Mr. Hawley holds a BS in physics from the University of North Carolina and an MBA from Harvard.
